Charleston is one of America’s most beautifully preserved
cities, with a rich 300-year heritage. The city contains
more than 3,500 historic homes and buildings, with several
dating from the 1690s. While the historic district, Rainbow
Row and “Market” is a significant draw for visitors, more
than 40,000 year-round residents and hundreds of
businesses keep the Charleston Peninsula a vibrant urban
area. Stores, restaurants, shops of all types and offices
are within an easy stroll or biking distance from many of
the residential areas of the Peninsula. Charleston’s
signature housing type is the “Charleston Single”– a narrow, street-hugging house with side piazzas. There are many
other housing options in the downtown Charleston Peninsula
from waterfront estates, to waterfront condominiums, to
studio apartments to more conventional homes. The
downtown area also hosts the College of Charleston as well
as the Medical University of South Carolina. The Peninsula
offers it all.
